Cookies
What we use cookies for.
A small set of cookies keep the site working and help us understand what people read. No advertising, no tracking across other sites.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your device so it can remember something between visits. Most websites use them. Some are necessary for basic things like keeping you signed in; others are optional.
What we use
We keep this list deliberately short.
Essential cookies. These keep the site working. They remember things like whether you have dismissed the cookie banner. The site cannot function properly without them, so they are always on.
Analytics cookies. We use privacy-friendly analytics to count page views and understand which writing people read. These cookies do not identify you personally and the data is aggregated. You can turn them off from the cookie banner.
We do not use advertising cookies. We do not use cookies that track you across other websites.
How to turn cookies off
You can change your preference for analytics cookies from the banner at the bottom of the site. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Instructions differ between browsers; this guide from the ICO explains the main ones.
If you turn off all cookies, parts of the site may not remember your preferences between visits, but you will still be able to read everything.
